Steele's Fraudulent Pup

The big shots can whine all they want that Republican US Senate candidate Michael Steele is deceptive for making campaign signs that seem to identify the former state GOP chairman as a Democrat.

Here at The League, we have an even greater concern over another deceitful ploy by Steele to trick voters of Maryland.

In his well-received television ads, Steele hangs around with an adorable Boston Terrier. Makes him a good guy, right?

If it was the truth!

The family photo below reveals that Steele does not even have a Terrier. Rather, the family pet is in fact a Siberian Huskie.

In politics as in life, images speak louder than words.

How Cardin might give Steele the shiv.

"Michael Steele says he loves puppies. We agree, it's very good to show love to animals.

But he and I are in a race not for dogcatcher, but for the United States Senate to deal with issues involving the lives of our soldiers and sailors abroad and our civil liberties here at home, Medicare for our elderly citizens and the very real health insurance concerns for all Marylanders.

A Senator needs to be able to handle issues more complex than a can of Alpo.

So if Mr. Steele is willing to show up to debate critical policy issues for the benefit of the people of Maryland, beyond his love for his dog Fifi, I will be happy to meet him. And if Mr. Steele wants to bring his dog, that's fine by me too."

I think Steele's campaign is being run by high schoolers, I really do.

Let's see what they's been up to:

- misleading signs that make you think he's a Dem.
- Advertising that Mfume supports him, but it's the son and not the father.
- Ads to convince people that he's not part of the GOP machine, but he still takes money from the big GOP donors, including some who appear to have some antebellum tendencies.
- Ads (from the Black Repub group) that say that MLK was a Repub and that the Dems founded the KKK.

Why doesn't he run on his own record, touting the advances he and Ehrlich have made. Yes, there was the time they tried to sell off the State parks to cronies. Well, maybe he shouldn't mention that one. Ok, there was the whole thing about firing career state employees (not appointees) who happen to be Dems. Well, that's not a good one either. There have to be a whole list of things. Improving education....can't think of anything. Making State government more efficient....I don't think firing competent employees is a plus in this category. Improving roads. Did they do any of this?

I can't think of a single accomplishment that this guy can run on. Maybe he and his staff are right after all and their best approach is to mislead and confuse the public.

I think his children should sue him over the mental anguish associated with wearing matching family shirts.
