Just A Feeling...

No objective analysis on the impressive fundraising reports in the gubernatorial race, just a member of The League's very personal response to the day's news.

The same day I wake up to a press release from the Mayor's campaign bragging that "O’MALLEY/BROWN OUTRAISES EHRLICH/COX BY NEARLY $1 MILLION," I read that a guy my age and two kids are gunned down a block from my house.

The accepted notion that the gubernatorial race is fought in Baltimore County is based on the premise that O'Malley will have a substantial advantage in the numbers from Baltimore City. But Ehrlich has a shot at cutting into that advantage, which could nullify a narrow O'Malley lead in the suburbs. The mayor is not as invincible in town as many widely assume - recall a little-known challenger won nearly 30% of the Democratic vote in the 2004 mayoral primary. And not only is an O'Malley fatigue growing among Baltimoreans, many of us feel betrayed that the mayor is out there seeking higher office before he's accomplished his goals for the city.

Finally, take note of this Baltimore Sun quote from City Councilmember Kenneth Harris: "People are questioning me about how much attention the mayor has been paying to issues important to the city... I haven't seen the mayor."

Interesting, but I've still gotta think we'd be better off w/ O'Malley.
