The Best Volunteers Money Can Buy

So, just in case his campaign for Paul Sarbanes' Senate seat isn't pitiful enough, millionaire Josh Rales paid to bus in former drug addicts to an event to make himself look good, according to the Post. Yeah, I know, why pile on the guy with 1% in the polls, right? Well, when rich folks with no experience and no new ideas try to buy a seat in Congress (Rales has apparently given his campaign $1.4 million so far) Marylanders need to know what we're getting. And just because you can afford to buy volunteers and to run an expensive vanity campaign, doesn't mean you'd make a good Senator.

Did you know that the next Gov will be picking two new faces for the state Court of Appeals (per Monoblog)? That makes me think of all of the encroachments on our civil liberties and privacies going on. Didja know we're going to start having video cameras up hither and yon since the Assembly overrode the governor. Yeah, it'll start with red light cameras and filming in banks, but then you'll see your streets and sidewalks being filmed (in Montgomery County, for instance, you can even see the feed on tv or the internet). Oh, and then they'll put them in the buses (I kid you not). Anyway. Just thought I should say.

Hi Sara - welcome aboard!

According to the Daily Record, there are three to go due to mandatory retirement age, unless one announced retired already.

I wonder to what extent local or legislative candidates pay staff versus get staffed by volunteers.
