Dirty Tricksters

Today's Sun ("Frosh accused of withholding information on Web rumors") reports that Ehlrich legal counsel Jervis S. Finney is attacking State Senator Brian E. Frosh (D-MoCo) for failing to reveal the identity of online message board poster MD4BUSH. The administration is angry at MD4BUSH for prompting ex-Ehrlich official Joseph F. Steffen, Jr. to admit that he spread an internet rumor accusing Mayor O'Malley of fathering an illegitimate son with a local television reporter. According to The Sun, Finney wrote to Frosh "because it does not serve your political interest, you are apparently withholding information that would shed light on... the false username MD4BUSH." He continues "In fact based on information apparently provided by an elected official from Baltimore, you well know the identity of the 'Watergate style' dirty trickster who operated under the evasive pseudonym MD4BUSH."

So let me get this straight... Ehrlich and his buddies consider the self-described "Prince of Darkness" Joseph Steffen to be the victim of a "dirty trickster" who revealed that an administration official was spreading false and politically-damaging rumors about the Mayor? Sorry Bobby, but you've get it backwards: getting a person to admit to malicious behavior is actually an ethical thing to do, no matter if a misleading pseudonym was used. Steffen and the Ehrlich administration are the "dirty tricksters," the individual who brought the behavior to light is not.

Yeah, it seems like a stretch to try to make Frosh seem like the bad guy.
