Bill to claim text books as tax credit
Newly elected Delegate Craig Rice, among other Delegates such as Pena-Melnyk and Ross, are sponsoring a bill to make University textbook purchases deductible from State income taxes. Students may claim up to $500 of their textbook costs if they are eligible for need-based assistance as determined by the Maryland Higher Education Commission. More information here.
Montgomery County College Democrats President Neal Carter (neal_c@mac.com) is working with Del. Rice. Please contact him if you would like to work on this legislation to make it law. There will be a hearing soon that will require strong student support!

What an awesome idea!
Would it only be college textbooks? Because this could be a backdoor way of further subsidizing private primary and secondary schools (many of which are religious and thus such a policy would constitute government support of religion)
