Cardin Ad

Love Ben's Baltimore accent, it rolls well. Way to bring up the stem-cell issue beautifully; it's both a hot issue in itself for Jewish voters due to a large elderly Jewish population in Maryland facing many medical issues, plus the fact that Steele completely suicided that issue some months ago with an offensive Holocaust analogy before the Baltimore Jewish Council.

The issue plays well among moderates and even many pro-business Republican moderates, plus the huge medical research infrastructure here.

Steele is a Bush loyalist. Yes, Steele can think for himself. He thinks like a strongly committed conservative who will be, essentially, a better looking and more polished Rick Santorum if elected. Steele is smooth, I suspect too smooth by half, without the substance. The Sun nailed him well for his issue-ducking empty debate performance.

And yet in the name of diversity, many blacks will vote for him, because of his color.

I don't know why there is such a controversy about the Democrats not having a black person running statewide. There were a couple running and they lost. This is not the fault of white Democrats, it the failure of candidates to build a case for themselves.

My message to those who are bemoaning the lack of diversity on a statewide ticket- plan ahead, get your act together, and stop expecting to be appointed to a statewide campaign- run on your own iniative.

What an exceptionally bland ad. But Cardin delivers the blandness with substance and sets up a great counter to the "Dr. Phil"-type ads Steele is running. The extras are nodding their heads and smiling a bit too much, but overall, well done because of the blandness.
